My name is Ms. Schilling, and this will be my eight year teaching and my seventh year at New West Charter School. I love being a part of a middle school team as well as having the opportunity to work for a school that consistently puts its students and their education first.
I was born in New Orleans but raised in Mandeville, Louisiana, and always loved math from a young age. I received my Bachelor of Science in finance with a minor in mathematics from Louisiana Tech in March 2016. After graduating from college, I wasn’t sure where life was taking me; so, while waiting tables and waiting for life to guide me, I decided to start substitute teaching to earn extra money. After six months of substitute teaching, I decided to return to Louisiana Tech in July 2017 to pursue a Master of Arts in Teaching Secondary Mathematics Education Grades 6-12. During my time in graduate school, I was also a full-time high school math teacher at a tiny school named Quitman High School in Quitman, Louisiana. While teaching at Quitman, I taught every high school math subject up to Pre-Calculus as well as 8th Grade Math. Upon graduating from Louisiana Tech again in May 2018, I made the big move to Thousand Oaks and obtained a teaching position here at New West for 6th Grade Math and Pre-Algebra. Thousand Oaks was quite the drive to and from New West, so I eventually ended up moving to Valley Village where I currently reside.
I have one child, a Miniature Australian Shepherd named Margot, who is about to turn 8. Outside of the classroom, I love to take Margot to the dog park or out and about town so we can explore and get to know the city better. I plan on getting a sister for Margot soon, but not until I have a big backyard for her and her sister to play in together.
I am super excited for the 2024-2025 school year! I can’t wait to meet each and every one of my students and look forward to an amazing year.
