Greetings students, fellow staff and parents! I'm so pleased to have joined New West this year, and I am grateful for the warm welcome I've received.
I hail from Canada, and am a fairly recent newcomer to the United States. I grew up in Toronto, Ontario, one of the most diverse and fascinating cities in the world. My transition to living in Los Angeles was therefore quite easy (except for learning to drive on the L.A. freeways of course!)
My first calling was actually social work rather than education, and I spent two years as a counselor before going on to become a teacher. I completed my undergraduate degree in history at York University in Toronto, focusing mostly on Canadian, Western European and East Asian history. I completed my Bachelor of Education at the University of Toronto (OISE), and received credentials in both History and Family Studies (Canada's answer to Home Economics).
My philosophy of teaching is that students should be given every opportunity to demonstrate their learning and that professional development is in many ways just as important as student learning.
I look forward to meeting all students, staff and parents and developing strong community relationships in my new home at New West.
